Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) was established by Usman Memorial Foundation (UMF) in 1994 as a not for profit institute in collaboration with Technical University Nova Scotia (now Dal-Tec), a very reputable Institution of Engineering Education in Canada. Subsequently, in 1997 UMF executed an Agreement with Hamdard University to make UIT a constituent of Hamdard University. This Agreement has been replaced by a new one in 2012.
UIT is located at Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, opposite Safari Park, off University Road, Karachi. It is equipped with comfortable classrooms, modern labs and an up to date Library. Four Information Processing Labs having over 450 workstations support UIT. A Local Area Network is operational for resource sharing and efficient computing.
UIT offers BE in Electrical Engineering, BS in Computer Science and Masters in Engineering & Sciences.
As of to date, 2613 students have graduated with Bachelor’s degree and 472 students have been awarded Master’s degree by Hamdard University.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Waseem Akhtar as the Director of the Institute heads UIT. He was the former Director, Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi & former Professor of Physics, University of Karachi.
An Executive Board, comprising of distinguished members from education, industrial and commercial segments, governs UIT.
UIT is following the norms of higher education set by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and is accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council and NCEAC. Several faculty members of UIT are engaged in research leading to PhD and are also publishing their papers in prestigious journals both in Pakistan and abroad.
